…And I don’t mean the illegal kind. It’s been a while since I ran longer than 5miles. This morning I had the pleasure of doing an impromptu LSD, which stands for Long Distance Running, which is a form of continuous running for more than 5K or 3miles. It helps build your endurance and get you mentally prepared if you are training for a half or full marathon.
And since, I just jumped back into running again – and I am loving it! I just decided to hopefully run a a half-marathon this coming September 19, 2015 at the 2015 Indian Summer Half-Marathon. I almost signed up for one in Spokane and thought about doing a full in the Tricities Full Marathon this coming October.
But, I believe that a 21Km/13.1miles will do for now. I don’t have any specific training program that I follow. Mostly, I go on how I feel for the day and do my best to alternate my running days between easy runs, tempo runs, and long runs. Hopefully, I can squeeze in hill repeats to help develop power for my skinny legs.
This morning though, all I had planned was running long and of course, taking some pictures along the way! After living in the Tricities Washington for 3 years – this was my first time to run in Columbia Park. And I intend to enjoy, not just the run – but the sites as well.
I woke up at 5:45am, drove down Columbia Park and started my run at 6:06am. The park was close to deserted but there were a handful of cyclist in road bikes and even in recumbent bikes.
I was averaging 10-11minutes per mile. I didn’t push myself too much, but I would occasionally do some fartleks along the way, and of course , I took pictures. The weather was just perfect at around ~60-70F/ 15-18C and the sun was not hard on me just yet.
I started my run from the parking lot at the bottom of Edison St. and ran mostly on the Columbia Park Trail going towards the Blue bridge and playground of dreams. I was originally planning on mapping my run the night before, but abandoned the idea and instead – just went with the flow of the trails and road.
By mile 4 on my Garmin, I decided to head back to the car again. This time, I mostly took the paved trails and there were more people trickling in the park to either start their run or walk on this brisk Saturday morning.
I, on the other hand was on my way back to finish my run. I guess I was enjoying my run too much that I suddenly found myself near the REACH museum, which is past where I parked my car. And it dawned on to me that I took the back trail and completely passed and missed my intended end point.
Oh well, I made a U-turn and could have run more than 8 miles this morning. But I stopped my Garmin at exactly mile 8 andwalked another mile back to the car. I needed to get home, well you know – nature was calling. 😀
