I spent 5 days away from home last week to invest on myself through being trained and certified in vestibular rehabilitation at the American Institute of Balance. Several days and weeks prior to the training, I was excited and anxious at the same time. Excited that I was going to learn and hone my skills and at the same time anxious because the thought of being in a room full of fellow therapist really intimidate me and more anxious because I was going to be on my own and that meant my husband and my son will have to fend for themselves while I was away.
Turns out, I didn’t have to worry at all. Tony and Sky had a blast
eating out all week and going about town while I was away. And I met some very strong and intelligent women while I was in Tampa, Florida!
As soon as I flew in, I drove to my hotel to check-in and then drove by the AIB institute to scout the location. Driving around was daunting, after being spoiled driving carefree with little to no traffic in the Tri-cities, WA. Florida traffic was fast, sometimes heavy with construction going on left and right and bumps on the roads almost everywhere.
I was transported back to Manila! I had to get my Manila girl driving skills back on and kind of acclimated myself after a day or two.
But, I still had heart mini heart attacks every now and then on the road.
I went straight to Clearwater Beach and had a drink and fried clam dinner at the famous Frenchy’s Rockaway Grill during the first evening. The place was packed and it was a 30-minte wait for a table, so it was dinner and a drink at the bar.
I had an excellent time learning new things and old things that I have stock piled themselves in the back burner of my mind. However, I also had a great time being in another city and meeting and being with other intelligent women. Learning from their experiences both in terms of career and in life just opened my eyes even more. And this was a time that I needed time on my own too, a time to give myself a tune up to enhance my brain and let my spirit to just breathe in itself.
It was almost a week of just thinking about me and not worrying about anything else. I needed it, even though I thought I didn’t.
Alright, I am going to let the photos do the talking.
Driving under the rain back to my hotel after the second day of training.
Walking along Clearwater beach area to decompress after a full day of diagnostics and lectures.
Walking around Ybor City on my last evening in Tampa, Florida
Picking up some handmade cigars in Tampa at Tabanero Cigars.
Went for a Spanish-Cuban dinner at the elegant Columbia Restaurant.
A pitcher of Mojito made table-side, not for me. I had a glass of sangria. 🙂
Until my next blog post!
