One day, sometime in late 1990 or early 2000…
Tony finds a dog right by their house. She was a lost dog and kept her for a couple of days. She was sweet and loving. However, she obviously looked like that she belonged to another family. And Tony did what any good man would do, he took her to a vet and found out she did indeed belonged to someone. She had a microchip with all the details of the owner and the sadly had to say their goodbyes.
Several days later, Tony and his family at that time went to the pound and in hopes of finding a dog that would blend well with them. Lo and behold, the first dog they see was the same dog that they surrendered to the vet. It turns out that the previous owners couldn’t take care of her anymore.
Tony named her ROGUE.
We knew we wanted to get a dog, and we knew we wanted a specific breed – the American Staffordshire Terrier, but we decided that we would actively look for one after at least living a year in our new home. On the 19th of December of this year, we finally moved in and spent our first night at our new home. Our thoughts and goals were of how to pull off Christmas and getting our lovely home organized. Aside from that, we still had to go to work and do our routine.
Little did I know that sometime in October, 2015. Tony signed up for alerts from Petfinder. He himself, forgot about it – but on the same week that we moved. He recieved a couple of alerts about two available dogs that we have been thinking of getting. While I was at work on the eve of Christmas, Tony and Sky went to see the one that was at the Benton Franklin Humane Society. They were after all, out and about and just wanted to check the dog out, with no clear intention of adopting one.
We did, after all wanted a whole year just to enjoy the home.
For all who knows my husband, he coaches at Contenders Boxing gym at downtown Kennewick.
The dog was ecstatic to meet them and just started licking both my husband and son. He was 56 pound of happy energy. And he was a pitbull terrier.
His name was ROCKY (Rocky Balboa? 😃)… But he was wearing a collar with the name “ROGUE” on it.
If that isn’t kismet, I don’t know what it is.
And the day after Christmas, we took him home. ❤️
