Hello 2017! Sorry I have been gone for a longtime… I just got back from a wonderful holiday vacation from The Philippines and still have a hangover from it – big time! 🙂
Well, one of the interesting things that we got to do was spend a half day at Puning Hot Springs in Pampanga. The spa is located about an hour from Manila. And our contact asked us to go into the old Clarkfield airbase and gave us directions from there to get to the Puning Hot spring base camp 1.
There are 3 stations there, the first one being the base camp; where they gave you a shirt and a pair of shorts to use. It is also where you make your payment of Php3,000 per person. But, we were able to get a discount of Php2,450.00 each because we were a group of 10. I forgot, but there was a lower rate for the kids.
Then we made our way to Station 2 via 4×4 jeeps which is included in the package, where you were buried under lahar (volcanic) sand for 15mins; while some of the staff gave you leg and arm massages by stepping on you while you get cooked under the very hot sand. 🙂 It is said to help with the circulation and the amount of time was just right.
We then walked to the adjacent lounge area, where they applied volcanic mud on your arms, belly, legs and face to help cool you down and is said to be medicinal as well.
It was another 4×4 ride to Station 3, where the Hot Spring pools are located. We rinsed under the showers first to remove the mud and headed to the pools where we there were several ones that you can choose from. Some are way too hot for us to handle and just enjoyed the lukewarm one located by the edge of mountain.
After all this adventurous pampering, you will get hungry! We then headed back to Basecamp 1, where a lunch buffet was prepared for everyone to enjoy. And is again included in the package. You do need to pay extra if you want an ice cold can of Coke or Sprite. You can also buy fresh buko (coconut) juice for Php100.00.
Overall the experience, was awesome and unexpected for us. It was also Christmas day when we went, and sure was glad that it was open then. There are also no clear rules in which station you can start from. You can go directly to Station 3 from Station 1, then work your way back to Station 2 then to Station 1 again. It really is up to you.
One of the highlights for me is the 4×4 ride from each station, it goes from concrete, to off-road, then through narrow river gorges and breathtaking lahar (volcanic mud) landscapes. It felt like being inside a Jurassic park movie and the only thing missing were the dinosaurs! 😀
Here is a short video of what we did. I would like to apologize in advance if it gets too shaky or stops abruptly at the end. This is my first edit with the GoPro studio and hopefully will get better in time. 🙂
Until my next post!
